How we use the materials in the library media center
The library media center is used for reading, research and learning. You can read books that interest you on a variety of topics for fun pleasure reading, or for learning about new things and creating research projects.
Materials that are found in the library media center include books, guiding reading kits, videos, magazines, and computer workstations. |

Checking for wear and damage
Before you check out a book, make sure that the pages aren't ripped or stained. If not taken care of properly, library books can be damaged by foods, liquids, animals, siblings, writing or coloring in them, and by folding the pages or turning them too quickly. If you find a book that is damaged, please show it to the media staff or place it in the book hospital (right).

Selecting a just right book
Remember doing this in other grades? Well, the same rules still apply. You wouldn't want to wear a shoe that is too big for you or one that is too small would you? Just like when trying on new shoes, you can choose a book that is just right "fit" for you.
Read: The Five Finger "Tips" poster for choosing a just right book (right). Next, view the video of a student trying the tips (below). |
Finding a book on your level isn't all you have to think about though. You may also want to ask someone to help you figure out a good book to read-one that you will like and find interesting, exciting, funny, or thrilling etc. View the short cartoon below for more great tips on how to find a book on your level that you will love to read.
